I usually wake about 5:45, make my hubby breakfast, pack his lunch, take a super quick shower, get dressed, wake up the boys, make them breakfast, pack their lunches, wake up Little Sis, get boys on the bus, work on getting Little Sis dressed, pack breakfast for her, throw her in the car, head to work around 7:50. There is very little time to actually enjoy my morning. Today was different.

It was a glorious Monday morning here. The kids are out of school for spring break and I am not working. I was able to actually wake up and enjoy the peacefulness. This morning, I was able to enjoy my coffee and read my daily devotional. I even had time to peak out the window and catch a glimpse of the sun rising.

I also plan to take advantage of some of my time off work to declutter with the kids. I am purging clothes and working on paper clutter this week. It's going to be a great week! What are your plans?

One of my goals for 2015 is to get rid of 2015 things from my life. I would like you to join me! Ready to Purge? Here are few simple guidelines that you should consider following to help you be successful.

1. Write down your Why? What is your reason for purging? Are you getting ready to sell your house? Are you wanting to be able to have people over? Are you wanting to make money off your items to pay off debt? Are you wanting to simplify your life and have less stress? Whatever reason you have for getting rid of items in your house...Write it down. Put it on your fridge or nightstand, so you can see your goal on daily basis.

2. Get inspired! Find online articles that inspire you and read them to get you motivated. One of my favorite blogs, www.becomingminimalist.com, is very encouraging and I visit it frequently to keep me going on this purging journey. Read or listen to books on decluttering. Some of my favorites include:

3. Find a buddy! Having someone to join you in the journey is important. They can help motivate you and hold you accountable. Luckily, this year, my husband has shown an interest in decluttering, so we started keeping track of our items on our calendar together. It is really cute to see him write down every time he gets rid of an item. So far together, we have purged 241 items that we no longer need or want. If you don't have a physical someone, join a facebook group! Just search Declutter and several will pop up.

4. Make a plan! How will you declutter? How often? I will be setting aside each Tuesday to declutter for the entire day, but work on decluttering 15-30 mins daily, more if I have the time.

5. Get Started! Start with items that don't hold a lot of sentimental value. Good areas to start the purge would be with clothing, shoes, books, toys, and paper. Wait to purge items from your childhood or family mementos until you have purged every other possible spot in your house. These items will be harder to get rid of.

6. Ask yourself these simple questions when purging:

Does this item spark joy? If it does, keep it! If not, get rid of it! You should want to fill you home with things you love!

Is this item useful? If you ACTUALLY use it, keep it! If not, TOSS! Of course, if you have multiples of the same item, get rid of the extras!

7. Make a plan for your discarded items, and get rid of them fast! Do NOT let them sit in your basement where you can take them back out!

8. Sit back and enjoy your decluttered home! Then, share your victories with me!
As I am getting ready to embark on The Great Purge of 2015, I thought maybe I would share with you why I am on this mission.

On December 31st, 2013, my mother called all nine of us children together. My father, who had been battling cancer, had "things" he wanted to pass on to us and wanted to be present when it was divided. Truthfully, it was very uncomfortable morning. To sit and go through treasured items of a loved one who knew his days were number was heartbreaking. While we were wrapping up hours of taking turns and picking out items, my father turned to me and quietly asked "Do you think everyone is happy?" Stunned, I simply replied, "There is nothing in the world that we would want more than to have you healthy. You are more important than any thing you could give us." Three days later he was no longer with us, but his words have been etched in my brain ever since. Do his "things" bring me happiness? Yes, only because they are memories of him. If given the chance, I would give up all the "things" that I own to bring him back.

As sobering as this story may be, this was my first realization that things in my life had to change. After a year of grief, I look around my house and realize that I have too much stuff. Stuff that takes too much time to maintain, clean, and steals me away from the "things" that mean the most...my loved ones. Therefore, I am on a mission to purge at least 2015 items from my home. I would love for you to join me...Jodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11455513339616816712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2645110047168255516.post-59534302938651389122015-01-19T06:50:00.002-07:002015-01-19T06:50:49.097-07:00Goals for 2015

January's half way over and I decided to buckle down and make some goals. I am not expecting to start and be successful with these goals in January, but hope to make progress in these areas by the end of 2015. Studies show that if you write your goals down, you are more likely to obtain them, so here goes.

1. Get a handle on my laundry situation.
2. Set up an exercise routine for 3 days a week.
3. Lose the 30 lbs that I gained in 2014.
4. Go to bed when my husband does.
5. Follow a morning and night routine for keeping my kitchen clean.
6. Stop eating out so much.
7. Increase my water intake.
8. Keep a prayer journal.
9. Read the books that people have given me to "borrow" and give them back.
10. Hold my children more responsible for household duties.
11. Get rid of 2015 items from my house in 2015.
12. Finish decorating each room of my house.
13. Print out all my digital photos.
14. Make digital baby book for at least one of my children. (Bonus for all three!)
15. Tame the paper monster in our house.

I will be sharing more on these goals throughout the year. What are your New Year's resolutions or goals?
I'm BAAACK! Well...at least for now! 2014 was a tough year for me. Losing my father was more difficult than I ever could have imagined. With it came so many changes and challenges that I was basically in survival mode most of the year. I look back and see a big blur. I am hoping to get back on track in 2015 and start making this a year of growth. I am starting this blog back up to keep me on track. I really do miss my rambling.

Until next time...Jodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11455513339616816712noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2645110047168255516.post-36335096247056223052014-03-25T06:03:00.002-07:002014-03-25T06:04:06.297-07:00Whatcha Eatin'?
Well, I finally got a membership to Costco. We made a trip there on Saturday to do a little shopping. Thankfully my sister and mother came along to help with the three kiddos. Come to find out, you can spend an awful lot of money in a little time. Plus, all the darn samples they are handing out makes you want to buy more. That is why I ended up purchasing the $15 Chicken Alfredo meal we had last night. It was delicious, but not so nutritious. I admit, I loved the convenience of it! However, $15 a meal is just not in the budget. Needed to plan my menu based on what I already had in the pantry for the rest of this week. Here is what I came up with:

Monday: Costco Chicken Alfredo, Green Beans, Salad
Tuesday: Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Dinner Rolls
Wednesday: Taco Meatball Ring, Cooked Carrots
Thursday: Steak Stir Fry over Rice, Cottage Cheese
Friday: Upside Down Pizza, chips, veggies & dip
Saturday: Family Get Together...not sure what I am bringing yet.
Sunday: Grillin' out! Forecast is 64 and sunny...it better not change.

This is one of my favorite meals. It is simple. It is yummy. It is NOT healthy. Sometimes we just need a little comfort food, and this is definitely the recipe that I go to.

Original Recipe:

2 Cans of Cream of Chicken Soup
2 Cans of Chicken Broth (14.5 oz)
1/2 Cup of Butter
1 Package of Split Chicken Breasts (Usually 4 halves in a package)
1 24 oz package or Reames Egg Noodles (Must be this brand)

Cook chicken breasts, butter, soup and broth on low for 6 hours in crock pot. Pull chicken, then add Reames noodles. Cook another 1 1/2 - 2 hours. Salt and pepper to taste.

Changes I made:

* I just use frozen chicken breasts...usually 3 for a full batch and 2 small if I halve it.
* I added a little chopped carrots and celery. It makes you feel a little better about eating it.
* I added my salt and pepper to the crock pot when putting it all in.
* My noodles didn't take as long to cook.
* Keep extra chicken broth handy if it gets too thick for your liking.

This makes a huge batch. For our family of five, I can get two meals out of it. It is so tasty that my entire family will eat the leftovers.

***Special shout out to my sister-in-law Heather for sharing the recipe with me.***

It still seems so unbelievable. It just happened so fast. Stupid Cancer. He fought for two months. No more pain. No more suffering. For that, we are thankful. It hurts. A lot. It's different. But, it is definitely real. I know it was all part of God's great plan, but there are still times that I question God. Why my dad?

What about my children? They still need their grandpa. He loved them so much. I still need him. And my Mother. She's only 63. Sometimes it just doesn't seem fair.

The past two months have been hard. Very hard. But, today as the sun is shining, I am reminded that there is always something to be thankful for. Our God is always good. While I miss my daddy, I rejoice that he is in Heaven. I am thankful for the two months that he fought to give us time. My siblings and I became closer. We spent many nights together sleeping on the floor of my parents' bedroom during his last days. We laughed together and cried together. Now we grieve together, but I am thankful that we have each other. My husband and I grew closer. He was an amazing support during his illness. Making sure I spent as much time as possible with my father. Seeing my husband say goodbye to my father was a very hard, yet wonderful thing to experience. Their relationship was special and for that I am thankful. I have an amazingly strong mother and an incredible family. I am truly blessed. My three children will remember their Grandpa who adored them. Between afternoon naps, tractor rides, trips to Florida, and everyday snuggles, my children were lucky to have a Grandpa who made them feel special and loved. Yes, we miss him. A lot. He left behind wonderful memories and so many life lessons. We must continue to make the best of each and everyday...and that's what I intend to do. TODAY, I am going to stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to (a new) normal. I am going to start living life intentionally. Join me.

Growing up in a large family of eleven where money was tight, there were some things that we just did without. Chocolate milk was one of them. In fact, there were some days when we had to make do with powdered milk. Yuck! My kiddos however are lucky, they had a father who grew up loving chocolate milk. When I got the opportunity to try out Trumoo flavored milk, I was so excited and I knew they would be too!

Trumoo and Bzz Agent were nice enough to send me a coupon for 1 FREE Trumoo Flavored Milk and several $0.75 off 1 half gallon coupons! We, of course, had to try out the Chocolate first. Sad thing is that it literally lasted 2 or 3 days in our house.
In blender, combine TruMoo ® Lowfat Chocolate Milk and chocolate wafer cookies. Blend until smooth. Insert chocolate chips or chocolate candies into the dollop for eyes.*To enjoy a cold mudslide, do not heat in saucepan or microwave.

So...what did we think?

We really enjoyed the chocolate milk. The boys drank most of it, but daddy also was able to get a glass full. He thought the chocolate was a little weak. I personally like the flavor. I also loved the fact that the milk came from cows that were not treated with the growth hormones and the chocolate flavoring did not contain high fructose corn syrup or any unnatural sweetener.

Next on our list to try was the vanilla-flavored Trumoo. This was quite festive in the orange color. Though the flavor was not a hit for me, the kids loved it!

We decided to try out another one of Trumoo's recipes and made the "Spooky Smoothies".

We definitely had fun trying out Trumoo Flavored Milk and will purchase
more in the future. We found that our local Walmart carried all of the
flavors. Also, right now Trumoo is also having a new Sweepstakes where
you could win a Haunted Hollywood Vacation! So go out and celebrate
Halloween with some orange Trumoo and take your chances!
If you have never visited, I highly recommend this place! They have some many fun activities for the kiddos! We plan on making a trip back over there before they shut down for the season on November 2nd.
During the month of October, I’m following along with Edie & Ruth on their 31 Days of Less & More journey. I’d love for you to join in by reading the posts and completing the projects, or just sit back and read along each day.

Wow, starting and following through with this challenge is, should I say way, more "challenging" than I thought! I am only six days behind, but I thought I'd better play some catch up. Truthfully, I find that it has been a lot more thought provoking than I thought and a bit intimidating to say the least. However, I did agree to this challenge, so I better get started.

Day 2: Less Fear, More Courage: Today's Challenge to identify one thing you are too scared or fearful of doing and do it.

While I did not conquer my fear today, I did conquer several of my fears a couple of weekends ago when I participated in the Hard Charge Peoria Race on September 28th. If you have never heard of the Hard Charge Race, I encourage you to take a look at the videos on YouTube. Basically, it was a 4 mile race with 27 obstacles that you have to face along your "run". Obstacles included jumping in icy water, scaling over old cars, climbing walls, army crawling through mud and sand, rope climbing, wall climbing, monkey bars, and much more. At the end of this race you had to go up a rock climbing wall and then have to slide down a fireman's pole from 20 feet or so in the air. Basically, I had no business participating in this, but a bunch of girlfriends convinced me that I could do it. With their encouragement, I was able to complete every obstacle, with the exception of the monkey bars (Fell into the water)!

Day 3: Less Bitterness, More Forgiveness: Today's challenge was to write a letter to someone who wronged you and to forgive them. Do not send it, but commit to praying for that person.

Thankfully, I cannot think of a particular person or event where I feel like I was wronged or mistreated. I really do not hold a grudge or bitterness towards anyone and I thank God for that. I skipped this day, but continue to pray that others forgive me in the event that they may feel mistreated by me.

Day 4: Less Comparison, More Self Confidence Today's challenge was to think of someone you compare yourself to and write down that person's name and all of her wonderful traits. Then think of possible trials that person has and pray for that person. Maybe even send her a note telling her how she has been inspiring to you.

I don't only compare myself to other moms, but I also compare my marriage, family, body to others. I find that the more I compare, the less grateful I am for the blessings in my life. Everyone has a struggle that we do not see and we need to learn to be happy in our own shoes. Whenever I find myself feeling discouraged or thinking the grass my be greener somewhere else, I read this blog post Somebody Wants What You Have and remember to count my blessings. I encourage you to read this!

Day 5: Less Self-Centeredness, More Service Today's challenge was to do something--anything--to serve someone else today.

I brought a meal to a new mom last week, and today I chose to call that mom and offer to take one child off her hands tomorrow so she could have more rest.

Day 6: Less Discord, More Harmony Today's challenge was to identify a situation in your life where there is conflict, resentment or discord and think of one of two things you could do to resolve that conflict.

Identify
a situation in your life where there is conflict, resentment, or
discord. It could be in a friendship, family situation, or group you
are a part of. Take an honest look at your own contribution and
culpability to this particular situation, then think of one or two
things you could do today to help resolve the conflict, ease the
tension, or move towards reconciliation.
One particular situation in my life that is causing issues is our morning rush. I am finding that I am getting frustrated with my son in the morning. He is incredibly slow moving in the morning and I find myself losing my cool. One particular thing we argue over is his wardrobe. He would like to wear the same green baseball tee with stains all over it every single day. It's been driving me crazy. When I suggest other shirts outfits, they are "too long" or "not comfy". So tonight we decided to layout our clothes so we do NOT have to have this conflict in the morning. I explained to him that we will not change our minds in the morning, and what we pick out tonight is what we will wear tomorrow. Hoping to have a better morning! Also, I am going to start waking up 30 minutes earlier than normal so I can have my coffee and time to get my Bible read before the kids get up so I can be ready for the day!

So anyone else doing this challenge? What do you think?

Identify
one person who has wronged you and become a source of bitterness in
your life. Write a letter detailing what you are angry about and how
that hurt you. End the letter by writing down how you intend to let go
of your bitterness. Don’t send the letter, but make a commitment to
pray for that person every day this month.
TODAY’S CHALLENGE:

Identify one small thing you have thought about doing but have been
too scared to do. It could be something as small as trying a new food
or a new fitness class at the gym, or perhaps speaking to a crowd,
riding a roller coaster, or even confronting someone who has hurt you,
whatever it is, write it down. Tell your fear out loud that it can’t
control you, that you are going to do this one thing even though you are
scared. Then DO IT. Share the fear you plan to conquer in the comments below, or on Facebook.

Next, think of how different your life might be if you were
courageous for the people in your life. If you were open, vulnerable,
tender, kind, self-sacrificing, and compassionate. Think of who most
needs your courage today and find a few small ways to show them. Maybe
you’ve been fighting with your husband, or yelling at your kids, or
maybe you’ve been keeping your heart at a safe distance from everyone in
your life. Whoever’s name comes to mind, write it down and list 3
ways you can be more courageous in your relationships this week. Pray
for that person everyday and put them right at the top of your ‘to do’
list. See how your thoughts about them change after a week of loving
them with courage.

too scared to do.

My hunky hubby made a little "firepit" in our backyard earlier this summer, and the kids have been begging to make a fire in it for awhile now.

Little Bro was all smiles!

The kiddos LOVED roasting and eating hot dogs. We will definitely be doing this again...probably at least once a weekend if the kids get their way.

However, I must admit, my favorite part of it was a bit later when it was just the two of us around the fire while the kiddos slept peacefully. Just perfect.

What family fun are you doing this weekend?
I know, I know...I am horrible at keeping up with this blog. I really enjoy doing it, but have a hard time managing family life and this! BUT...I am not giving up! I love being able to look back through the years and see what I have written. So, I am back! I am hoping now that the school year is in full swing, I can keep with it!

Speaking of school...Big Brother started Kindergarten! He is loving it!

He is doing half day and riding home on the bus. I love being able to see him in the afternoon.

A couple weeks later, Little Bro started preschool. He just goes once a week, and working on his ABC's, handwriting, numbers with Mommy the rest of the week. He loves having his own backpack like his big brother!

Baby Sis is home with me on those days. We try to get a little walk in. She is getting so big and ready to brave the road on her tractor!
This week will be a bit crazy. Big Brother starts Kindergarten. It's hard to believe that is that time to let go of him a little. It will be hard on mom. Sniff. Sniff. It seems like yesterday he was this chunky little baby boy.
Both him and his little brother have quite the interest in tractors and farming. When I saw a antique tractor show advertised in the newspaper last week, I knew we just had to check it out! Therefore, our Saturday night consisted of tractors, tractors, and more tractors.

The boys were thrilled with all the different makes and models. This is the first FORD tractor that they've seen in person. Blue tractors are hard to come by.

If you are a weekend grocery shopper like me, you'll love the benefits that it holds at Kroger. DOUBLE FUEL POINTS! This July, for every dollar that you spend at Kroger on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you will earn 2 fuel points towards money off gas at a Kroger Fuel Center. This is exciting for me because our Kroger in Morton just added the new fuel center. Plus, I tend to shop at Kroger every week, so that equals a lot of savings for me! Woot Woot!

Last week, I filled up my tank of gas with savings of $9.60. Instead of paying $3.44 for gas, I used my fuel points from the first two weeks of July to earn $.60 off per gallon and pumped my tank full at $2.84 per gallon.

So HOW DOES IT WORK?

Simple.

1. Sign up for Kroger Card and set up your account at Kroger.com. Once you have done this, then you can download coupons to your card for extra savings in the store.

2. Download the 2X fuel Points coupon to your card at Kroger.com/summerfuel. It will be active immediately.

3. Then start shopping! For every dollar that you spend at Kroger this weekend and next (program ends July 31st), you will earn 2 points. Also, if you are a couponer like me, they will base your fuel points BEFORE your coupons are discounted.

Note: As a Bzz Agent, I was given $5 off my order to try out the new Summer Fuel program at Kroger. I do however shop at Kroger on a regular basis and felt that this program was incredible before this added benefit.

I had a feverish baby girl wake me up way too early this morning, so I wasn't sure if I would be able to get a post up today or not. Luckily, my sweet baby girl is still happy even when she is sick.

We have been celebrating the 4th of July quite a bit this week. We watched Fireworks on Sunday at my brother's house. Wednesday we went to my in-laws for a cookout and watched fireworks. Both nights were a lot of fun, but our kids were up to 10:00 both nights. So when the actual day arrived, we just wanted to stay home and relax. I didn't want to cook, but we didn't want to spend a lot of money eating out. Then, I remembered this fabulous Bzz Kit that I had received with coupons for FREE Fried Chicken, chips, and soda from Kroger. SCORE! I quickly made a call to Kroger to place an order for my chicken. Typically, if you go into Kroger they always have an eight piece chicken ready for purchase in the deli. I knew that everyone else would be having picnics and I wanted to be sure that they would have some left! When I got there at 5:30 to pick it up, it was hot and ready for me! I also used my other coupons to pick up more freebies. Here is my haul...

My children were all smiles when I arrived with all there favorites: Sprite, Fried Chicken & Barbecue Chips! We dug right into the fried chicken...

Each 8 piece comes with 2 breasts, 2 legs, 2 thighs, and 2 wings. Wasn't sure how long this would last with my big eaters, but my boys each had a leg, and then I split a chicken breast between the two of them. The Chicken Breasts were huge! (if you are like me, you might chuckle a bit). But seriously, they were. I took a thigh and shared some of it with baby sis. Dad grabbed a breast and a thigh. In the end, we only had 2 wings left. The chicken was delicious! It was crispy and greasy...just like fried chicken should be!
With a little help from Kroger, we were able to throw together a great meal for our 4th of July. In addition to the freebies that I received in my Bzz Kit. I purchased Kroger Southern Style potato salad, made a ranch dip for Kroger carrots and we were set. EASY and yummy!

I even the surprised the kids with some yummy 4th of July cupcakes from the Kroger bakery.
Overall, it was a great meal and very easy on the pocketbook! The fried chicken was on sale for $4.99, but regular price was $7.99. The chips were $2.00 and the Sprite was $1.00. As a Bzz Agent, I was given them for all FREE, but these were great prices! I picked up a few extras like the potato salad ($3.99) and the cupcakes ($1.99 for six). This is definitely a great dinner option for us! We will buy Kroger Fried Chicken again. It was delicious, affordable and super easy on mom!
There is so much to love about summer...the warm weather, flip flops, sunshine and my favorite...Ice Cream! Too bad this Summer I've chosen to get healthier and lose some weight. Ice Cream can make that a bit hard. Thankfully, Bzz Agent and Kroger introduced me to some awesome new treats that are somewhat healthy and a lot less calories. I really couldn't pass up this opportunity and quickly went out and used my Free coupon for Kroger brand Yogurt smoothie bars in the Strawberry Banana flavor.

Let me tell you, these were delightful! They were super tasty and even had chunks of real fruit in them! My children love yogurt, so these were great treats for them. No guilt here!

They are even delicious on the go, or at least baby sis thinks so! However, they can be quite messy, especially with a 2 year old!

After trying the yogurt bars, I went out and bought a box of the low fat fudge bars. I am an addict to chocolate and these looked delicious.
The fudge bars were super messy and melted quickly, but they were yummy! I love being able to indulge without feeling like I am going to gain 5 lbs from one treat. I also don't feel guilty sharing with my children. We keep on buying more and eating more. We're all smiles, chocolatey smiles that is!
As a Bzz Agent, I was able to try the two new flavors of Veggie Chips: Sweet Potato and Zesty Cheddar. The Sweet Potato chips were a hit with my kids because they came in their own individual bags. What kid doesn't love his/her OWN bag of chips?
Actually, there is a lot more to love...like the REAL sweet potato flavor, 14 grams of WHOLE grain, and 40% less fat than a regular potato chip. My children enjoyed the flavor and I enjoyed the freedom from the guilt that I usually have when I let them have "chips" for a snack.
The chips were salty and crunchy...just the way I like them! And at least they are healthier than some of my snack choices.

While we enjoyed the Sweet Potato chips, the Zesty Cheddar Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chips were incredible! My hubby and I both agreed that we could substitute these for our beloved Doritos. In fact, I have bought 2 bags since.

While they have a different taste, they still have the similar cheesy taste we enjoy. In fact, these chips are so much better because they are made with broccoli, carrots and tomato..can you believe that? Talk about tricking my kiddos! They loved them! It also helps that they are made with whole grains. Finally a healthier snack that tastes so good!

If see these in your local Kroger store, pick one up and try them out for yourself! Or better yet, ask me for a coupon...I have a couple left to share!
Note: Although I was given these products to test for free, my opinion is completely honest and true. Jodihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11455513339616816712noreply@blogger.com0
